Alexandra Ivarsdottir was certainly the happiest woman in the world when she married soccer star Gylfi Sigurdsson in June 2019. With her being a former beauty queen and him being one of Iceland’s biggest stars, the couple was dubbed the “posh and becks” of Iceland by the press. For many years, the couple remained one to envy as they often shared beautiful photos of themselves together. They were often pictured out on adventures at different places across the globe. One notable occasion was on Alexandra’s birthday in 2020 when the couple went on a glacier hike in Sólheimajökull.
However, the pictures and all other things stopped coming in in mid-2021 when news broke that her husband was arrested for a child sex offense. Alexandra has since gone cold, raising concern about what happened to her and if her marriage is still going strong.

Alexandra Ivarsdottir Is A Model and Former Beauty Queen
Alexandra Ivarsdottir was born to Guomundur and Isabella Ivarsdottir in Reykjavík, Iceland on the 10th of August 1989. In 2008, she became a beauty queen after winning the Miss Iceland pageant. She went on to compete in the 2008 Miss World pageant where she managed a top 15 finish. She also picked up the Miss World Sports award after beating other contestants in fitness tests and activities.
A woman with beauty and brains, Alexandra has a degree in psychology and is reportedly also a certified natural chef. She clearly has a lot more to rely on when her modeling career comes to an end. Despite her social media handles being private, she was able to amass thousands of followers. Her account has however since disappeared following an incident with her husband.
Ivarsdottir Deleted Her Instagram Account Amidst The Child Sex Offense Scandal
The incident that led to Alexandra Ivarsdottir taking a step back from public life began on 16 July 2021 when the Greater Manchester Police released a statement that said a 31-year-old Premier League footballer was arrested “on suspicion of child sex offences.” Without naming the player, they said he was released on bail while investigations continued.
Many people speculated about who the said player that texted underage girls for sexual purposes was but nothing was confirmed. A while later, Everton football club released a statement that they had “suspended a first-team player pending a police investigation”. While the club failed to mention if the player in reference was the same one arrested by the Greater Manchester Police, a conclusion was quickly drawn as to who the 31-year-old player might be. The most popular news website in Iceland, mbl.is, later confirmed the suspicion by saying that the player arrested was Gylfi.
As speculations on the matter continued to go round, Alexandra Ivarsdottir came out to deny it. Her husband, however, remained quiet on his social media pages, not addressing the matter despite numerous people leaving comments on his pages. As the trolling of Gylfi continued across different social media platforms, with a few people leaving comments on her own page, Alexandra was left with no option but to delete her verified Instagram page where she often posts about what was happening in her life. Her account – @alexandrahelga is no longer available.
With Alexandra choosing to leave social media, fans have wondered what happened to her and if her marriage would survive the scandal.
She Began Dating Her Soccer Star Husband In 2010
Alexandra Ivarsdottir and Gylfi Sigurdsson have been together since 2010. Gylfi was at the time a rising soccer star, playing for Reading FC in England before earning a transfer to 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany. Alexandra on the other hand was already a former beauty queen who won the 2008 Miss Iceland pageantry and competed at the 2008 Miss World pageant held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Icelandic couple dated for about nine years before getting married in July 2019. They wedded at the historical and stunning Villa Balbiano in front of friends and family. A few months after the fairytale wedding in Italy, the couple announced in December 2020 that they were expecting their first baby. However, as a result of the child sexual offense that probably led to Gylfi being left out of Everton’s final Premier League squad for the 2021–22 season, nothing has been heard about the birth of the child.
