Sonya Curry is an American educator who founded and serves as the president of the Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman in Huntersville, North Carolina. She is however better known as the mother of NBA players Stephen and Seth Curry, and the ex-wife of retried NBA player Dell Curry.
Sonya and her now ex-husband Dell made headlines in August 2021 when they announced that they were getting a divorce. The duo have since moved on from each other and are dating new people. Their new partners are however a former couple, causing many to believe that the Currys were swingers who have now swapped partners.

Sonya Curry Married Dell in 1988 After Meeting in College
Sonya and Dell Curry were students at Virginia Tech when they met each other and started dating. It is said that Sonya crossed paths with her future husband during her official recruiting visit to the school. She took time to watch the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team practice and it was at this time that she and Dell noticed each other.
What followed next was a relationship that lasted all through her college years. Sonya was a star of the school’s volleyball team while her partner starred on the basketball team. The duo were a couple made in sports heaven and everything went according to plan in their relationships. They would later get married in 1988.

Sonya and Dell Were Married For 33 Years Before Getting a Divorce
After exchanging marital vows in 1988, Sonya and her husband made their home in Huntersville, North Carolina. While her husband had a 16-year career in the NBA, she stayed home to raise their kids; Stephen, Seth, and Sydel. In 1995, she began her career as an educator, co-founding Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman, an institution her children would end up attending.
All appeared to be well with the couple especially as their sons grew to have careers in the NBA. Sonya and Dell were always pictured in the stands supporting Steph, the starting point guard of the Golden State Warriors, on his way to winning his three NBA championships. It, therefore, came as a surprise when the couple announced they were parting ways.
Why Did Sonya Divorce Her Husband?
Sonya Curry and her husband accused each other of cheating and so filed for divorce in 2021. Sonya accused Dell of cheating on her with multiple women during their marriage while Dell alleged that Sonya was having an affair with Steven Johnson, a long time friend of the family who she would later enter into a public relationship with.
Sonya however denied she ever had an affair, saying that the relationship only started after she and Dell had agreed to part ways in 2020.

Sonya Curry’s new boyfriend Steven Johnson was a student at Virginia Tech alongside his partner and Dell. The trio were all athletes as he played American football. He featured in a total of 44 games for the Hokies, recording a total of 1,058 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his college career. Johnson would later get drafted to the NFL by the New England Patriots in 1988. He played as a tight end in the big leagues for two years before suffering a career ending knee injury.
Following the end pof his athletic career, Steven Jihnson started his own business. He began running his own construction business named Johnson Commercial Development in 1995. He serves as the president of the compnay and so oversees all aspects of the company.

In a surprising turn of events, Dell Curry now appears to be dating Steven Johnson’s ex-wife, Nicki Smith. The duo made their first publi appearance in June 2022, causing an uproar on the internet as people alleged that the Currys might have been swingers and things went wrong, causing them to swap spouses.
