Paolo Banchero is an American-Italian basketball player who was selected 1st overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2022 NBA Draft. A unanimous 5-star recruit, Paolo was one of the top players in the 2021 class. A true and true athlete, the Seattle, Washington native began his career playing three sports; basketball, football, and track. He has since concentrated on basketball, raising hopes about what he might achieve in the NBA after turning pro.

Paolo Banchero is an American by nationality but he is ethnically mixed. This is because his mother Rhonda is African-American while his father Mario is an American of Italian descent. The young lad was born on the 12th of November 2002 in Seattle, Washington.
Much about Paolo’s early life is not known but it is said that he clocked a height of 3 feet (0.91 m) at 15 months of age. With this physical attribute, it was a no-brainer that he began playing basketball at a young age. He drew inspiration from his mother who played the game professionally.

Paolo Banchero’s mother, Rhonda (nee Smith), is a retired American basketball player who played professionally in the ABL and WNBA. She played college basketball for the Washington Huskies of the University of Washington and graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer. She was a third-round choice in the WNBA draft in 2000 and also played in the American Basketball League as well as overseas before becoming a basketball coach at Holy Names Academy in Seattle.
Banchero’s father, Mario, on the other hand, played collegiate football for the Washington Huskies. Mario was a tight end for the team he played for alongside his brother. He, however, was unable to make it as a professional, unlike his wife. Paolo’s parents met and began dating during their time at Washington where they were both athletic students.
Paolo Banchero Played Both Basketball and Football While Growing Up
Banchero grew up playing basketball at the Rotary Boys and Girls Club of Seattle. A testament to his athleticism, he also played American football and ran track. By the time he was in the seventh grade, Paolo had grown from 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) to 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m). He also had the talents to match his height as he was ranked among the top 50 eighth-graders nationally in both basketball and American football.
He Attended O’Dea High School Before Accepting a Scholarship Offer From Duke
For his high school education, Paolo Banchero enrolled at O’Dea High School in Seattle. He played both basketball and football, serving as the backup quarterback on the team that went on to win a state championship.
As a freshman on the basketball team, he averaged 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. In his sophomore season, he averaged 18.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, leading O’Dea to the Class 3A state championship. His performances en route to the title ensured that he was named the most valuable player. As a junior, he averaged 22.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game. His performances this year earned him the Washington Gatorade Player of the Year award and MaxPreps National Junior of the Year award.
Upon graduating high school, Paolo Banchero was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2021 class. He was named to the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic rosters before accepting a scholarship to attend Duke University.
The Basketball Player was the First College Athlete to Appear in the NBA 2K Video Game Series
Paolo Banchero made an appearance in NBA 2K22, making him the first active college basketball player to appear in the video game series. Before he ever played a college game, the athlete signed a NIL deal with 2K Sports which saw to his inclusion as a virtual character in NBA 2K22.

How Tall is Paolo Banchero?
As earlier stated, Paolo was only just above one year of age when he recorded a height of 3 feet (0.91 m). As a seventh-grader, he had grown to 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m), making him as tall as the average player in the NBA.
