Lofgren’s husband wrote his name in the history books by becoming the first male Swedish and first male Nordic major champion. He has achieved considerable success in his golfing career, and this has brought a spotlight on his wife, who was a college golf player in the United States but was unable to later make it as a pro.
Emma Lofgren was Born and Raised in Sweden
Emma Lofgren is a native of Sweden like her husband, however, much about her early life is not known other than that she grew up in the northern part of the country. Details of her family, including the identity of her parents and what they did for a living, are also not public knowledge.
One fact that has, however, been very publicly noted is that the Lofgren family is a sporting one, but it is not clear which members of the family were athletes and what sports they played. In regards to her siblings, Emma has a sister named Sarah Skonby, who has notably worked as her famous brother-in-law’s manager since 2008.
She Enjoyed Skiing as a Child Before Taking to Golf
Coming from a family that was said to have had a huge interest in sports, it is no surprise to find out that Emma Lofgren began skiing at a very young age. Alpine skiing is particularly a famous sport in the region of Sweden she comes from, so it was a no-brainer that she took it up.
Years later, Emma began to pay attention to golf and would soon find herself drifting away from her first love. Her interest in golf would later overcome her interest in alpine skiing, and Emma decided to pay attention to it. When the time came for her to attend college, she chose to move to the United States to enroll at the University of South Carolina, where she majored in Public Relations and Media.
While Emma was in college in the U.S., she joined her school’s golf team – the Lady Gamecocks, and participated in a few amateur tournaments. In 1999, she helped her team to a 14th place finish at the NCAA Division I Championships. She was able to record top ten finishes in a total of four tournaments during her college career before graduating in 2000.
After college, Emma Lofgren opted not to pursue a professional career in golf. She instead took up a teaching pro role at Barsebäck Golf & Country Club.

As things panned out, Stenson was allowed by the head of the men’s golf program at South Carolina to practice with the team, and it was through this opportunity that he got to meet his future wife.
Stenson and Lofgren both grew up in Sweden, but their paths never crossed. While Lofgren is from the northern part of the county, her husband is from Gothenburg, a city on the west coast of Sweden. The couple are said to have gone on their first date in 1997 during the Swedish Junior Match Play Championships. They would go on to maintain a relationship that lasted for about ten years before they made things official.
