Savannah Marshall’s Amateur and Professional Career
Back in 2012, Savannah Marshall became a sensation after winning a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. This was after her win at the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Qinhuangdao. When she was defeated 16–12 by Marina Volnova of Kazakhstan in her opening quarter-final bout, many felt the pressure and expectation was too much for an amateur like her to handle at the time.
Interestingly, Marshall remains the only boxer to have ever defeated Claressa Shields, the middleweight women’s gold medallist in the 2012 Olympics, in a fight.
