Jay Williams is a former American basketball player turned television analyst who was born on September 10, 1981, in Plainfield, New Jersey. He attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, where he participated in junior varsity soccer throughout his first year of high school. During his senior year, he won the volleyball state player of the year award.

He was not just a great basketball player, but he also showed a keen interest in a variety of other pursuits, most notably chess. He played basketball for the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team and the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, respectively, in both college and professionally. When he played for Duke, he was known as Jason Williams. In 2001 and 2002, he was voted NABC Player of the Year. The Bulls selected him in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft.

In order to avoid confusion with two other players in the NBA at the time, he requested the name Jay when he joined the Bulls.
